Our beautifully refurbished pub is a real rarity. The Case is Altered is a traditional English pub offering real ales and hearty food. The venue has been sympathetically restored so customers of all ages can enjoy this 17th Century pub. Customers can choose from 3 regular real ales and there’s one guest ale every week.

Despite common misconceptions, the name ‘The Case is Altered’ bears no relevance to the judicial system. The somewhat unusual name in fact originates from colloquial Spanish at the time of the Peninsular War. ‘Case desaltar’ loosely translates to ‘House of Jumping’ . Over the years sign writers have altered letters to try and give it an English meaning, where none truly existed!
